At Stimpson Avenue Academy, we provide a high-quality physical education curriculum that inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. We provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Furthermore, we provide opportunities to compete in sport and other activities, to build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.

We aim to ensure that all pupils:

• develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities;
• are physically active for sustained periods of time;
• engage in competitive sports and activities;
• lead healthy, active lives.

Intent, Implementation, Impact

At Stimpson Avenue Academy we recognise that High Quality PE (HQPE) contributes towards a much bigger picture in the ‘holistic’ development of well-balanced and responsible pupils. Active pupils who are confident and physically literate have improved physical, social and emotional health and well-being. This in turn leads to increased progress, achievement and attainment and ultimately skills for life. The difference HQPE can all make to pupils is in the words of the AfPE “quite remarkable.”

We take full advantage of opportunities provided by partnering organisations within East Midlands Academy Trust and beyond including:

• Professional development of staff members
• Specialist coaching and input into the curriculum and extra curriculum
• Specialist coaching for extra-curricular clubs
• Links with sporting bodies and local clubs
• Swimming lessons
• Organised opportunities for intra- and inter-schools competition
